5 Ways To Stay On Track This Holiday Season

Posted by Community Blog Star on

We asked our friends at 52 Thursdays to share some tips on how to stay on track during the holidays. Here are their top 5 tips! Plus we included a bonus Cold Pressed Cocktail recipe for you to impress your friends with at your next holiday gathering.

It’s the same story every year: we over indulge during the holidays with all the parties and family gatherings, then New Years comes and we make resolutions to be healthy and lose weight.  The yo-yoing back and forth isn’t good for us, but sticking to a healthy life style all year long is hard.  To add insult to injury, the cold, frigid weather doesn’t exactly make working-out very enticing.

The key to avoid the holiday temptations and being sucked into the cozy, sedentary life style is getting ahead of it.  To help with this struggle, we are sharing with you some easy tips and tricks to help you through this holiday season.

1 - Healthy Holiday Appetizer:

This Holiday season we encourage you to share a healthy appetizer to offer to guests or bring for the host. Here are a few of our favorite healthy bites that are easy to put together and always a crowd pleaser.

Recipe 1: Herbed Cream Cheese {Alisa Burke}
Recipe 2: No Bake Persimmon Snowball {With an Open Mind}
Recipe 3: Gazpacho with Avocado {Kale & Chocolate}
Recipe 4: Endive with Pear & Blue Cheese {Vanilla & Bean}
2 - Cold Weather Exercises:
It is easy to become sluggish when the temperatures drop but it is no excuse to give up on the workouts you had been doing so diligently before! Even if the weather has put a damper on your outdoor exercises and daily runs, you can easily get an equally as intense workout indoors. When we can’t run outside or make it to the gym, we rely on the girls from Tone It Up to inspire us with new and challenging workouts that will make us break a sweat. They have so many workouts to choose from that we promise you wont get bored! Here is one that is great to tone your arms and abs, which we know is important come time for those holiday parties!

3 - Portion Size:
We realistically can’t always say no to deliciousness thats being offered this time of year. And that’s ok, just ensure that you don’t over due it and portion size what you in take. Listen to your body and not your eyes. That goes for the specialty cocktail drinks too ;)

4 - Avoid Process and stick to whole foods:
Keep it simple and stick with whole foods that you can pronounce and recognize! If it comes in a can or a package that has been sitting on the shelf of your grocery store, then 9 out of 10 times it includes ingredients that are unheard of, full of added sugar and most likely unhealthy for us. Whole foods can assist you in reducing your cholesterol, regulating your blood sugars and reducing risk for diabetes while also assisting you in maintaining your weight. Stick to the basics and prepare dishes with fresh and natural ingredients and you will notice a difference in the way you look and feel.
5 - Adding South Block Juices into your daily diet:
We have tried many cleanses on the market and South Block has by far been our favorite! Their ingredients are fresh, they taste delicious and they are their shop is right around the corner from where we live. While we love doing the 3 Day Cleanse with South Block, sometimes it just isn't practical, especially around the holidays when we are attending numerous dinners and parties. It is super easy to just add a juice or two into your daily diet, it will give you the boost of energy you need to make it to the gym and provide you with the essential vitamins you may be missing by snacking at all of those holiday parties!
